Receiving pay during store renovation?
I live in B.C. Canada and work at a retail store. The store is undergoing a renovation for 6-7 days at the beginning of August, I believe, and I have heard of employees receiving pay during this time. Is this true? I tried to look around in the Employee Standards Act and some other resources but could not find information regarding this. I asked my manager and she has not heard of anything like this as of yet.

Hi, Im in the UK, and I know the laws and such vary greatly, but I know over here if a store closes for renovation, the staff still get paid, as its not due to the employee that they cant work. Its different from public holidays, where everything shuts. Here (or at least where I’ve worked) we get either standard contracted hours, or holiday pay. A good place to look would be your work contract if you have one, as most employers cover all eventualities in them. Failing that, do you have an employee handbook? Where they lay out what they expect from you, uniform etc. There may be something in there that could help. Finally, is there a number for a helpline for standard employment law you could call?
