how does an expansion pipe work in an indirect plumbing system?
i need to know this for my construction studies class
i dont know if this changes from country to country but the pipe that goes from the top of the hot water cylinder (hot press) has an expansion pipe so if the water in the tank gets too hot it will go up this pipe and into the storage tank in the attic. how does it work? what stops the water from going up when the water isnt as hot?
there is also another expansion pipe going on the pipe between the boiler to the hot water cylinder , on the hot water pipe going to the hot water cylinder there is the expansion pipe that also goes into the attic into a cold tank and its there for the same reason. how does the water know when to go up the pipes?
ok . think about it hot and cold . the expantion pipe allows for the hot and cold. or it would crack the pipe or the floor of what ever its installed into. the water just goes where the pump sends it. there are check valves. or orafaces to stop it from comeing back set on certain pressures . sorry about the spelling. my back round is us navy eng
